The 14th Student Scientific Conference Under The Slogan "Integration of Research with Community Service for the Development of Society" 25-26 April 2022

 

In Line with United Arab Emirates’ vision that aims to achieve an advanced scientific leap, and to chart its cognitive reality driven by innovation, research, science and technology to consolidate its position locally and globally, along with achieving University of Science and Technology of Fujairah (USTF) vision and mission, The Deanship of Graduate Studies and Research (DGSR), headed by Prof. Zein Elabidin Rizk, Dean of Graduate Studies and Research, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, organized the 14th Student Scientific Conference, under the slogan “Integration of Research with Community Service for the Development of Society” to encourage students to conduct scientific research and to consolidate the importance of community service for the development and advancement of Emirati society, as well as to encourage students’ positive participation in co-curricular activities.

USTF Student Scientific Conference is considered one of the most important annual events which is organized by USTF over the past thirteen years, respectively, within its implementing of USTF vision and strategy in encouraging and supporting scientific research and integrating it with community services to contribute to the development of UAE society. Through the Student Scientific Conference, USTF support and encourage students to innovation and precedence by giving them the chance to present their research posters and benefit from its application. Registration was opened for participations from all USTF colleges and the guidelines for participation in the conference were announced to all students, in addition to research evaluation criteria and presentation instructions.

USTF students from various disciplines participated in the conference by submitting their research projects in the form of research posters including abstracts, methodology used, and results and recommendations of their research. The research posters were discussed and evaluated by USTF referees from each college. The total number of participants in the 14th Student Scientific Conference for this year has reached 165 male and female students from 6 different college with a total of 69 teams, under the supervision of 29 faculty members according to the following table:

The participating students presented their research posters to USTF referees from each college. The winning teams of the first places from each program were announced and honored at the closing ceremony of the conference. Dubai International Pharmaceuticals & Technologies Conference and Exhibition

The Dubai International Pharmacy and Technology Conference and Exhibition - (DUPHAT) is the most prominent exhibition in the field of pharmacy in the Middle East and North Africa region. DUPHAT covers the pharmaceutical industry, over-the-counter drugs, retail products, and distribution within the pharmacy network. The event is also a useful platform for all stakeholders in the pharmaceutical sector to launch new products, learn new technologies and developments, obtain scientific knowledge, as well as being a rich platform for networking and building relationships. The event attracts top international pharmacists, marketing professionals, researchers, academics, scientists, doctors, students and other healthcare professionals under one roof, as well as many companies and pharmaceutical factories.
Three student groups from the College of Pharmacy participated in presenting their scientific research in DUPHAT within the framework of student competitions at the university and college level. Students Sarah Al Yammahi, Shahed Maysara and Alya AbdulRahim, under the supervision of Dr. Srinivasan RamaMurthy, on their topic (The Role of Drug Repurposing In Tackling the COVID 19 Pandemic) were able to attain 3rd Best Pharmacy Poster (Category Quality) . Prof. Sumia Ser Al Khatim - Acting Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences – appreciated efforts made by college students and professors to represent the college and university in an optimal way and also enrich the academic life of students by engaging with their peers from college students in the entire Arab world during their period of participation in the conference activities
 

The 5th ICPM Conference and Exhibition

The university’s participation was represented by establishing an interactive platform aimed at introducing visitors of the exhibition to the distinguished medical specialties offered by both the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and the College of Dentistry, in addition to a number of unique programs offered by the rest of the university’s colleges.University of Science and Technology of Fujairah had participated in the 5th edition of the International Conference on Pharmacy and Medicine and the accompanying exhibition held from 07 to 09 April 2021, at the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi - Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Emirate of Sharjah - With the generous presence of Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Head of the Ruler's Office.
The university students also participated in 6 research topics that dealt with different topics from pharmaceutical sciences and dental researches, all of which were well received by the visitors of the exhibition. The participation of the students, Dina Yehya and Muhammad Al-Daihi, addressed the issue of the effectiveness of using the YouTube platform as a source of medical information. Students Sarah Al-Yamahi, Shahed Maysara and Alia Abdulrahim also addressed the issue of using pharmaceutical preparations for other than the recognized indications of use to treat complications of Covid 19 disease. The students, Sheikha Al-Dhanhani and Wafa Al-Yamahi, also addressed the issue of the role of the mixture of honey and nigella in treating complications of Covid-19 disease. Students Nawal Ibrahim and Fatima Manhal, also dealt with the treatment protocols followed in cases of Covid 19. Self-treatment was disused by Shouq Al-Yamahi, Nadia Al-Khuzaimi and Maryam Al-Ameri using mobile application. Students, Soheir Mahmoud and Salsabil Muhammad, discussed the issue of pharmaceutical care after recovering from Covid 19.
The esteemed university professors had also participated in the 5th ICPM conference by instructing research lectures conduced by Dr. Abdulhadi Wraith, Dr. Haitham Al-Messiri, Dr. Ashok Matthew, Dr. Aessa Jaber, Eng. Lamia Hussein, and Ph. Tarek Shahin, who also chaired one of the scientific sessions. Dr. Amani Osman chaired the opening session of the conference and Dr. Prabhu Natarajan chaired the second session of the first day. Dr. Abdullah Al-Kindi, Chairman of the Conference Organizing Committee, conducted a speech during which he addressed the conference’s role in attracting specialized companies to support the medical field and reach important partnerships that contribute to achieving the goals of the conference. Dr. Azad Al-Najjar, the guest of honour of the conference, in his speech about the great civilizational achievements of the UAE in general and the Emirate of Sharjah in particular, and Al-Najjar thanked the organizing committee of the conference for organizing such specialized medical exhibitions for the benefit of this important sector
During the conference, the accompanying exhibition was held, which included exhibition stands from 53 local and international bodies that contribute directly and indirectly to support the medical and pharmaceutical sector in the country. The exhibition also witnessed the participation of a number of the university in the country. Also, during the conference, competitions for scientific posters and others for scientific competition between university students participating in the conference were held. University students won two awards at the third place in the category of scientific posters for each of the students Sarah Al Yamahi and Maysara and Alia Abdul Rahim under the supervision of Dr. Sirinivasan Ramamurthy and the research of the two students, Soheir Mahmoud and Salsabil Al-Ghamri, under the supervision of Ph. Tarek Shahin. Also students Sarah Al Yamahi and Shahid Maysara and Alia Abdul Rahim won the third place in the inter-university competitions in a strong competition in which they got a great applause from the audience for their distinguished performance despite not exceeding their second year of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in front of the teams from the final years of the rest of the universities
His Excellency Prof. Ali Abuelnour – Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology in Fujairah – expressed his appreciation for the role that such scientific meetings play in enriching students' academic life and helping them acquaint themselves closely with post-university life so that they can prepare for it in a way that enables them to adapt and innovate in various fields. His Excellency also expressed his pride in the effective participation of the university by faculty members and students of College of Dentistry, Pharmacy and Engineering in the conference activities, with praise for the harmony between all sectors of the university to ensure the success of that participation within the framework of the precautionary measures followed by all university employees and students.
